This concept further develops my experiments with PET-Felt that I have exhibited at DDW 2022.

According to the 2022 edition of The State of the World’s Forests (2022), „The world has lost 10.34 percent of its total forest area in the last 30 years“. The shape of the mirror represents our planet and the cutouts of 10 percent of the forest we have lost in the past 30 years. By facing the truth in the mirror each person can reflect on their own behavior.

By making a clear statement „The world is underpinned by unsustainable patterns of consumption that are dictated by norms and values, such as the desire for new things, instead of taking care of what we have” I was able to create concepts around my theme. In the end, I decided to create a mirror, so each individual can reflect on their behavior through the mirror. I used Plexiglass and laser cut out 10 percent of the mirror. In the holes, I placed PET-Felt pockets filled with ground that I sewed to make the plants last longer as they could root. I also created audiovisual footage for this project. The red light is rising, together with more dramatic music that gives you an impression of getting warmer.
